The swamps of South Florida are dynamic ecosystems. An alligator swims through a camera trap at a site in the Fakahatchee Strand that was completely dry three weeks prior, when bears and panthers had been using the drainage as a trail. Nearly two feet of rain fell during two weeks in early June and a total of 90 inches of rain have fallen since. It could be a full year or more before this site is dry again.
