Afternoon thunderheads loom in the east over Charlotte Harbor as they roll westward towards Gasparilla Island and the Gulf of Mexico. The historic metal lighthouse near the center of the island was first lit in 1932 to provide a rear range light, complimenting the primary lighthouse on Boca Grande Pass a few miles to the south.
