Lightsey cattlemen move a herd across their Polk County ranch along the shores of Lake Kissimmee. They have been ranching in Florida for eight generations and have placed 70 percent of their land under conservation easement. In 2006, they received the National Environmental Stewardship Award from the National Cattlemen’s Association, only the second time that honor had been bestowed to a ranch east of the Mississippi River.
