The Gulf of Mexico meets sand at Gulf Islands National Seashore, the endpoint of the Florida Wildlife Corridor Glades to Gulf Expedition. The Loop Current carries green Caribbean waters from the Yucatan up to this stretch of Florida’s Emerald Coast. Those same waters wrap down the peninsula through the Florida Straits to originate the Gulf Stream. Gulf Islands is America’s largest National Seashore, spanning barrier islands from Florida to Mississippi. Four of the world’s seven species of sea turtles nest on these undeveloped beaches.
